Long exposure of Campbell Falls cascading over wet dark rocks in Campbell Falls State Park

Campbell Falls 5-10-2014

Hiking out to Campbell Falls State Park just north of the Connecticut border into Massachusetts is one of my favorite quick treks for landscape photography. Setting up my tripod near the rocky gorge on a cool May morning allowed me to dial in a long exposure without dealing with harsh mid-afternoon glare.

The vertical cascade cuts through jagged, mossy rock formations before splashing into the dark pool below. The slow shutter speed smooths the rushing mountain stream into silky white ribbons, creating strong contrast against the wet, dark granite cliffs and fresh spring foliage framing the top of the ravine.
