Sterling Opera House 1-5-2014
Standing along the upper balcony of the abandoned Sterling Opera House in Derby, Connecticut, you immediately sense the history packed into the structure. Walking through the empty auditorium, the silence is heavy, broken only by peeling paint, decaying plaster, and creaking wooden floorboards beneath your boots.
This wide fisheye perspective emphasizes the dramatic curve of the ornate wrought-iron balcony railings leading down toward the stage below. Rows of vintage wooden theater seats line the raked floor under soft, diffuse window light streaming in from the arched sidewall openings. Natural sepia tones and aged architectural textures fill the entire frame from front to back.
