Autumn in Connecticut 10-17-2026
Back in October 2020, I went out for a drive with a friend to photograph the fall foliage up near Canaan, Connecticut. While scouting along the back roads, we came across Elm Knoll Farm. The wide red barn sitting at the edge of the open pasture immediately caught my eye. With the afternoon sun lighting up the hillside behind it, the whole scene had a classic New England autumn look that made it well worth pulling over to capture.
The composition layers the bright green grass in the foreground against the low profile of the red barn on the left. Beyond the tree line at the base of the property, the mountain ridge rises up to fill the background with a dense mix of orange, gold, rust, and deep pine green. Above the ridge, a bright blue sky dotted with white clouds balances out the warm tones of the trees below. It is a simple, clean look at the Northwest Corner during peak foliage season.
