Buttermilk Falls 3-20-2014
Late March in New England often feels like the depths of winter, and this trip out to Buttermilk Falls in Terryville was no exception. Working my way down the hillside trail, I framed this middle tier where the water cuts sharply around a massive, snow-covered granite boulder perched above the gorge.
A prominent mossy boulder sits nestled on the snowy ledge, anchoring the upper third of the composition. Water cascades down the dark rock shelves into an icy mountain brook below, while dense hemlock trunks frame the hillside on both sides, creating a clean balance of cold stone, white snow, and rushing water.
