Wasp & Flower 3-21-2016
With the arrival of Spring yesterday and snow where I am today I thought I’d post this wasp on a lily as a reminder that warmer weather is just around the corner. Checking out the daylilies blooming along the garden walkway in midsummer, I noticed a tiny wasp busy searching the throat of a bright orange flower for nectar. Moving in slowly with the macro lens let me get within inches without disturbing its work, capturing a brief, detailed glimpse into garden pollinator activity.
The macro shot captures the slender black and yellow wasp perched delicately on a flared orange petal beneath towering yellow stamens loaded with pollen. Soft, smooth gradients of warm peach and gold fill the background, emphasizing the crisp anatomical detail of the insect’s antennae, striped abdomen, and legs.
