Cornwall Covered Bridge 11-29-2012
Stopping by the West Cornwall Covered Bridge late in the season gives you a completely different perspective than peak foliage. I set up low among the shoreline wildflowers and tall grass along the Housatonic River to catch the red timber frame against the hillside. The soft afternoon light kept the river reflections natural and let the subtle late-autumn colors pop without heavy shadows.
The framing places the red covered bridge spanning diagonally across the water, supported by its central stone pier. A lush foreground of wild greenery and late-season blooms leads the eye straight into the rapids. Behind the structure, a steep ridge of evergreens, bare branches, and golden deciduous trees rises into a textured, overcast New England sky.
