Purple Hosta Flowers 6-30-2017
Stepping into my neighbor’s backyard on a quiet summer morning in 2016, I noticed these hostas putting out their fresh seasonal blossoms. It was an overcast morning with steady, diffused light, creating the ideal setting to work on handheld floral close-ups without dealing with harsh shadows, glare, or blown highlights.
The composition zeroes in on the delicate, drooping lavender bells and unopened buds clinging along a slender green stem. A creamy, out-of-focus background keeps your attention locked straight onto the soft violet petals, subtle white interior striping, and tiny yellow stamens waiting to open fully in the warm summer air.
