Thomaston Dam 6-7-2013
I walked along the upper ridge of the Thomaston Dam on a bright June morning right as high altocumulus clouds fanned out across western Connecticut. The water level in the flood basin was remarkably low, exposing the dry riverbed and grassy bottom lands beneath the concrete intake tower. Using an ultra-wide angle view let me balance the sweeping sky pattern directly against the sharp slope of the rock riprap.
The concrete intake tower stands tall along the left side, joined to the roadway by a metal access catwalk. Deep green forested hills flank the dry basin floor, while the winding Naugatuck River snakes along the valley bottom under a massive expanse of rippled blue and white sky.
