Ausable Chasm 7-8-2016
Hiking through the deep sandstone canyon of Ausable Chasm in upstate New York is an awe-inspiring trek surrounded by raw Adirondack geology. Looking down from the rim trail, the Ausable River surges over stepped stone ledges, carving through centuries of dark layered rock surrounded by dense northern pine forests along the gorge.
The composition leads the eye along the churning whitewater rapids as they plunge down dramatic rocky terraces into the shadowed gorge pool below. Rich evergreen trees clinging to the canyon walls balance the dark stone cliffs, while misty water spray adds depth and dynamic motion across the entire rugged wilderness frame.
