f-22 Raptor and P-51 Mustang 6-7-2015
Attending the 2015 Great New England Air Show at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee gave me a prime spot along the flight line. Catching the heritage flight pass required tracking two radically different aircraft moving together, matching speed against an open, pale blue sky without any background clutter or haze.
The sleek, modern matte-gray angles of the F-22 Raptor fly in close formation right beneath a polished World War II P-51 Mustang. Hard sunlight gleams off the Mustang’s chrome fuselage and yellow nose cone, creating a sharp mechanical contrast against the stealth fighter’s flat composite skin overhead as they sweep past.
