Summer Flowers 6-23-2016
Walking through the perennial beds on a bright summer morning, these wild tickseed flowers immediately caught my eye. The morning breeze was kicking up just enough to make close framing tricky, so I took a knee beside the garden bed and waited for a brief lull in the wind to get right in among the slender stems. Capturing wildflowers in natural garden settings always rewards a little patience with the natural light.
The shot captures a dense cluster of bright yellow coreopsis blooms set against soft purple salvia spikes rising from below. Diffused morning sunlight illuminates the ruffled petals and deep gold centers, while a smooth green background keeps the focus squarely on the natural textures of the summer garden display.
