Saville Dam 11-27-2013
Visits to the Barkhamsted Reservoir offer dramatic skies and quiet, open scenery along Saville Dam in Barkhamsted, Connecticut. Setting up on the grassy hillside bordering the water, I used an ultra-wide fisheye lens to capture the full sweep of the stone gatehouse, arched bridge, and sweeping reservoir shoreline under sweeping overcast clouds. The wide angle captured the expansive curve of the terrain.
The extreme perspective curves the vibrant green foreground grass and shoreline, drawing the viewer’s eye directly toward the historic stone tower. Soft afternoon light reflects off the calm reservoir surface, mirroring the textured gray clouds that stretch across the expansive Connecticut landscape.
