Dover Stone Church 10-11-2013
Hiking into the Dover Stone Church cavern on a quiet autumn morning was well worth hauling the tripod over the rocky creek bed. The natural cathedral formation opens up inside a hollowed limestone cave, where a concealed waterfall cascades gracefully into a secluded shallow pool surrounded by fallen slate.
A long exposure smooths the churning mountain water into a silky veil that flows around large fallen boulders in the pool. Diffused daylight filtering down from the high rock fissure illuminates yellow-green moss and banded mineral strata across the jagged stone walls, balancing deep cave shadows with cool rushing mountain water.
