Great Falls 5-1-2013
Perched up high on the snowy rock bluffs overlooking the lower drop of Great Falls, the Housatonic looks entirely different than it does from down below. After all the turbulence and roar of the upper falls, the river gathers into this wide, calm basin surrounded by snow and quiet winter woods along the riverbank.
The high-angle perspective looks downward across smooth, rushing water in the immediate foreground into the flat, reflective basin. Snow clings to boulders scattered along the shoreline, while the muted winter palette of grays, browns, and soft white rocks leads the eye back toward the distant river curve.
