Great Falls 4-25-2013
Scrambling close to the upper shelf of Great Falls in Falls Village, the sheer force of the Housatonic pushing through the rock cuts was deafening. I positioned myself near the lip of this drop to capture the raw energy of the water colliding with cold winter stone before it plunges deeper into the river gorge below.
Using a fast shutter speed freezes every splash and spray droplet in midair against the dark wet rock face. Sharp winter icicles cling beneath the overhanging stone layers, contrasting the rough, sunlit sedimentary rock on the left with deep, turbulent foaming water on the right.
