Clematis 7-10-2017
Every summer, the red clematis vine planted in our front yard climbs up and wraps around our mailbox post, putting on a dependable show of deep color. Stepping out on a sunny July afternoon with a telephoto zoom gave me the reach needed to isolate the fullest cluster of blossoms against the green lawn behind it.
The composition fills the frame with velvety crimson and magenta petals surrounding intricate spiky cream centers. Soft summer sunlight grazes the textured flower faces, while a narrow depth of field throws the leafy garden background into a smooth, unobtrusive green blur that makes the vibrant purple-red floral tones leap forward on screen.
