Barrington Fair Grounds 1-4-2013
Walking the perimeter of the abandoned Barrington Fair Grounds in Great Barrington felt like stepping onto an empty stage long after the crowd left. The dirt track was completely silent and overgrown with tall, dried brush, but the massive old grandstand still held an imposing presence against the cold New England winter sky.
I framed this shot wide from the dead infield to capture both the sweeping roof of the grandstand and the wooden observation tower standing guard near the turn. Muted beige and yellow grasses fill the entire foreground beneath heavy, cold overcast clouds, giving the wide-angle perspective a quiet, forgotten atmosphere that shows how quickly nature takes over open spaces.
