Southford Falls 8-13-2012
Scrambling along the lower ravine trail at Southford Falls State Park brings you alongside several smaller chutes that most casual hikers overlook. I found a secure rock shelf near the water’s edge where Eight Mile Brook splits across several tiered granite boulders. Using a slow shutter speed allowed me to soften the churn and capture the natural flow of the brook.
The photograph focuses on smooth white torrents pouring down jagged charcoal-grey rocks into the swirling pool below. Deep ochre weathering on the large foreground boulder contrasts against dark, wet river stones and bright green foliage clinging to the canyon bank. The clean split of rushing water provides a balanced, organic focal point for desktop monitors.
