Animal Kingdom Elephant 1-28-2015
Watching large animals navigate their surroundings requires patience with your positioning and shutter timing. While trekking along the safari paths at Disney Animal Kingdom, this solitary African elephant ambled toward the edge of the enclosure and gathered fresh green reeds with its trunk right in front of my camera lens.
The broad side profile emphasizes the elephant heavily creased skin, wide fan-like ears, and slender curved tusk. A cool, overcast sky ensures soft illumination across the animal dark gray hide, while the backdrop of sculpted rock and tropical foliage provides an earthy, natural habitat aesthetic that frames the subject cleanly.
