Saville dam 7-14-2017
Summer mornings out along Saville Dam in Barkhamsted, Connecticut always provide great angles of the historic stone gatehouse. Walking down the stone causeway, I set up a wide-angle composition that framed the arched stonework against the expansive reservoir and forested hills. Soft morning cloud cover diffused the ambient sunlight across the water, keeping contrast balanced across the dark granite.
The photograph highlights the conical roof, rustic stone blocks, and warm wooden arched entryway of the gatehouse tower. To the right, calm lake water stretches out toward dense green hillsides under a soft summer sky, creating a peaceful, classic New England architectural landscape.
