Great Falls 4-29-2016
Working my way underneath the overhanging rock shelves at Great Falls in Falls Village gave me a rare vantage point that most people overlook from the trail. Standing under the cold, dripping stone cavern while the river crashed just inches away was damp and loud, but framing the landscape through the falling water was completely unforgettable.
The dark, moss-covered underside of the ledge frames the upper curve of the photo, creating natural vignetting. Outside the rock hollow, bright natural light illuminates the churning white spray pouring down, opening up to tiered river ledges and early spring woods across the open valley.
