Seaside Sanatorium 4-1-2013
Exploring Seaside Sanatorium along the shoreline in Waterford reveals all sorts of historic remnants scattered across the grounds. Walking along the eastern side of the property, I came across this round stone fountain basin sitting weathered in the middle of an overgrown concrete walkway, with the main medical building and its round cupola rising behind it.
The composition centers on the textured masonry of the old fountain, framed by fallen autumn leaves and creeping grass fractures. In the background, the multi-story Tudor-style brick structure and distinctive round tower stretch out toward Long Island Sound beneath a moody, overcast sky. The shot balances rich brick tones against natural coastal green.
