Grand Central 3-11-2013
I visited Grand Central Station in New York City in mid-December 2012 during the bustling holiday rush. Standing elevated on the grand staircase gave me an expansive view overlooking the entire main concourse. I set up my camera with an ultra-wide fisheye lens and a slightly longer shutter speed to convey the continuous flow of travelers heading to their train tracks.
This black and white fisheye photograph captures the massive concourse of Grand Central Station from an elevated angle. Holiday wreaths hang along the tall stone archways, and a large American flag hangs above the corridor. Commuters moving across the polished floor show intentional motion blur, creating a dynamic sense of motion beneath the immense vaulted ceiling and grand arched windows.
