Scarlet Macaw Parrot 9-11-2017
Photographing colorful macaws up close never gets old, especially when you catch one resting comfortably under soft, diffused morning light. This magnificent bird paused quietly on a textured perch, tilting its head inquisitively toward the lens. Using a telephoto zoom allowed me to fill the frame with detailed feather patterns while blurring the outdoor background cleanly. This was shot in Gumbalimba Park in Roatan, Honduras.
The composition zeroes in on the macaw’s profile, highlighting radiant crimson head feathers and layered rows of bright yellow and cobalt-blue wing plumage. Soft directional light emphasizes the detailed ivory eye ring, textured dark beak, and rich natural saturation against a smooth bokeh background.
