Southford Falls 8-22-2012

Whenever heavy rains pass through New Haven County, Southford Falls State Park in Southbury is one of my favorite quick spots to catch active water flow. Dropping down below the main upper tier puts you right at water level, where the cool spray from Eight Mile Brook hits your face. Setting the tripod legs among the slippery shoreline stones gave me this wide, immersive vantage point.

The wide-angle framing looks upward at the primary waterfall as it pours across dark, wet ledges into a churning pool. Long exposure work turns the turbulent water into silky white currents while preserving every crag and fissure in the black bedrock. Dense green forest foliage blankets the upper ridge, framing the rushing water with rich woodland color.
