Saville Dam 001
Visiting the historic Saville Dam gatehouse in Barkhamsted, Connecticut is always a favorite stop for local landscape and architecture photography. I walked up the paved stone approach leading toward the entrance, admiring the rugged masonry built during the 1930s. The bright afternoon sun cast crisp geometric shadows across the facade, making it an ideal candidate for a black-and-white conversion.
The image showcases the heavy wooden double doors set into an ornate granite archway with flanking stone buttresses. Converting the shot to monochrome highlights the deep texture of the hand-cut stone blocks and the quiet surface of the surrounding reservoir waters resting peacefully in the background.
