Icy Waterfall 7-6-2012
This icy waterfall is part of the Great Falls in Falls Village, CT. I shot this in January 2012.
Trekking out onto the rocks at Great Falls in Falls Village, CT back in January 2012 meant watching every single step on slick ice, but the formations around Great Falls made the freezing temperatures completely worthwhile. Tucking the tripod right beside this lower chute let me frame the rush of water directly against thick shelves of frozen river spray and heavy icicle buildup along the stone.
A quick exposure freezes the cascading water that contrast against the rugged, angular rock ledges. Long icicles hang like fringe along the stone overhangs, with subtle winter sunlight picking up warm earth tones in the wet rock surfaces.
