Robin’s Egg 7-26-2012
Taking a quiet hike along a shaded dirt trail in late July, a small pop of bright color on the path caught my eye. Looking down into the damp soil and fallen pine needles, I found a clean robin’s eggshell that had fallen from a nearby branch above. Finding pieces of nature like this on a casual walk is always a fun excuse to break out a close-focus lens.
The shot zeroes in on the smooth turquoise shell fragment resting beside a dry, golden-brown oak leaf and damp twigs. Soft daylight filtering through the tree canopy highlights the glossy surface of the egg, giving the rich cyan color clean separation from the dark, earthy forest floor.
