Roatan Lizard 11-19-2015
Exploring the island of Roatán off the coast of Honduras gave me a great opportunity to observe tropical wildlife up close, especially at Gumbalimba Park. While walking near the tree line, I spotted this large iguana perched calmly on an embankment under the morning sun. Setting up with a steady zoom lens let me frame a tight, candid portrait without startling the reptile, capturing its relaxed pose against the open garden backdrop.
The composition focuses directly on the reptile’s weathered head, showcasing its textured pebbled scales, dorsal crest spikes, and large circular subtympanic shield. Soft, out-of-focus lawn grass and palm fronds create a clean green background that contrasts cleanly with the earthy tan, charcoal, and subtle turquoise shades across the iguana’s skin.
