Black Hawk Helicopter 9-26-2026

In August 2020, I spent an afternoon exploring Litchfield County with my son and nephew for a casual photo outing. One of our planned stops brought us to the Colebrook River Lake Dam. While walking the area, the deep rumble of rotor blades echoed across the water from the north. Moments later, a military helicopter swept in low over the reservoir, passing roughly two to three hundred feet directly above where we stood. I raised my camera and fired off a rapid series of shots as it crossed overhead. It was only later during post-processing that I zoomed in and spotted one of the crew members in the open cabin window, clearly waving down at us.

The resulting frame captures the matte dark airframe bank cleanly against a dynamic summer sky. Broken cumulus clouds provide a bright backdrop that silhouettes the rotor blades and refueling probe, while the dense green canopy of the Colebrook ridgeline anchors the bottom third of the frame. The natural daylight balances the deep tones of the fuselage with the rich foliage below.
