Ringling Brothers 5-20-2016
Attending the Ringling Bros. Circus at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut, back in May 2016, I watched this skilled aerialist execute an incredible mid-air routine. Shooting inside a dark arena with fast-moving performers is always a technical challenge, but the dramatic performance lighting made for striking, high-contrast framing from the stands.
Suspended upside down from a metallic aerial hoop, the performer holds an elegant arch high above the arena floor. Powerful blue spotlights cut through the dark arena atmosphere, creating glowing lens flares and highlighting the athletic grace and glittering costume details against the deep royal blue wash filling the scene.
