Barred Owl 11-02-2015
We encountered this Barred Owl in an outdoor enclosure during a quiet afternoon walk through the scenic grounds at White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield, Connecticut. Observing one of these raptors at close range is always a treat, especially as it perched calm and comfortable right at eye level along a wooden fence post.
The tight portrait highlights the intricate horizontal barring and soft beige, brown, and cream plumage covering its head and chest. Natural ambient light brings out deep, dark detail in its large soulful eyes and hooked beak, while the weathered vertical post on the right nicely balances the bird’s rounded form.
