Giraffe 5-15-2017

Photographing wildlife requires plenty of patience and a good eye for unique framing opportunities. During a spring visit to the Bronx Zoo, I watched this tall giraffe feeding high in the tree canopy, waiting patiently until it lifted its head clear of the branches to capture an eye-level portrait with a telephoto zoom lens.

The composition highlights the giraffe’s iconic geometric coat patterns, long neck, and alert, calm expression against lush green tree leaves. In the lower background, an ostrich head peeks playfully into frame, adding an amusing wildlife detail that enriches the scene without distracting from the majestic giraffe.
