Photographing heavy rock shows from the front of the pit is all about timing, quick reflexes, and dealing with erratic lighting. While catching Sevendust sharing the bill with Godsmack at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, frontman Lajon Witherspoon commanded the front edge of the stage with nonstop intensity. When he leaned into the microphone, I locked focus right on his face.
Cool blue stage lights cut through the haze behind him, throwing strong rim lighting along his profile, outstretched arm, and dreadlocks. The tight composition keeps the background dark and uncluttered, putting every ounce of raw energy into his expression and weathered leather vest.
