Winter Berries 1-17-2014
Winter woods can look barren, but bright red berries standing out against evergreen foliage always make you stop and look. I spotted this slender winterberry branch loaded with fruit following a mid-January snow dusting. Getting close with a fast lens allowed me to isolate the vibrant red clusters while melting the snowy background into a calm blur.
The macro composition centers on smooth scarlet berries clinging to a slender winter branch, interspersed with long, delicate pine needles. Soft white snow sits atop a few berries, creating crisp organic detail and vibrant contrast against the cool winter backdrop. The balance between lively red tones and subtle greens produces a clean, refreshing seasonal display.
