Barkhamsted Reservoir 10-23-2013
Visiting Barkhamsted Reservoir on a calm October morning in northwestern Connecticut is easily one of the highlights of New England autumn. Standing along the shoreline near the Saville Dam, the glassy water was completely still, offering mirror-like reflections of the surrounding hillsides painted in brilliant shades of amber, rust, and evergreen.
The wide landscape framing balances the expansive blue sky and delicate cirrus clouds against the smooth surface of the water below. Sloping ridges covered in peak autumn foliage wrap around both sides of the basin, drawing the eye toward the distant horizon with incredible clarity, depth, and peaceful seasonal colors.
