Pine Cone 10-20-2013
While exploring Peoples Forest State Park in Barkhamsted, Connecticut, during a quiet October walk, I spent time scanning the ground for understated seasonal details. Resting right on a thick carpet of fallen needles beneath the towering trees was this solitary, weathered pine cone sitting completely undisturbed among the autumn shade.
Getting down flat at ground level allowed me to capture the rough, layered textures across each individual scale. Soft ambient forest light warms the reddish-brown pine needles in the foreground, while the distant pine trunks fade away into a smooth, muted vertical blur that adds natural depth to the rustic woodland scene.
