Saville Dam 10-26-2013

Visiting Saville Dam on an overcast autumn afternoon brought dramatic, moody cloud layers rolling directly over the Barkhamsted Reservoir in Connecticut. Standing on the cobblestone bridge right before the heavy wooden entrance doors, I attached an ultra-wide fisheye lens to capture the imposing scale of the rounded tower beneath the swirling sky. The cool fall breeze kept the air crisp and clear across the water.

The wide perspective creates curved leading lines along the stone guard walls leading straight to the arched gatehouse door. Moody slate-gray clouds fill the upper frame, contrasting against the golden-toned oak doors, weathered fieldstone masonry, and calm waters extending outward on both sides of the bridge.
