Stockbridge Brick Church 3-20-2013
Passing through Stockbridge, Massachusetts late in winter, I stopped by the town green to photograph the historic First Congregational Church against a fresh dusting of Berkshire snow. Setting up low near the driveway with a wide-angle lens let me take in the full brick steeple along with the nearby stone children’s chime tower in the distance. The quiet winter air gave the historic property an unmistakable New England presence.
The composition features the red brick facade, white trim pilasters, and tiered wooden steeple framed by bare winter tree branches overhead. Snow blankets the front yard in crisp white, while an overcast sky with subtle warmth filters behind the historic colonial architecture.
