Barrington Fair Grounds 3-23-2013
Rounding the rear side of the grandstand showed how quickly New England weather and untamed brush can reclaim heavy timber and structural steel. Thorny vines, wild weeds, and dead grass crawl right up the exterior staircase, slowly wrapping around the red barn-style siding and open walkways above the cracked pavement.
Using an ultra-wide focal length allowed me to pull in the red wooden facade, the steep outdoor staircase, and the sprawling walkway connecting the upper decks. Deep blue skies with scattered white clouds contrast nicely against the rusted structural iron and weathered exterior woodwork, giving this neglected corner of the fairgrounds a rich, dramatic sense of scale.
