Godsmack 9-23-2014

I shot this photo of Sully Erna performing with Godsmack at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The stage production for this tour was massive, featuring a lot of intense pyrotechnics. When shooting concerts with fire, you have to expose for the flames so you do not blow out the bright spots in the image. I managed to catch him right as the fire columns erupted.

This concert photograph shows Sully Erna singing forcefully into a microphone stand, holding a guitar. Behind him, two enormous pillars of bright orange and yellow fire shoot upward, illuminating the stage. The intense light from the pyrotechnics casts strong shadows on his face and arms. The upper background shows parts of the dark arena and glowing stage lights shining through the flames.
