Hot Air Balloon 9-30-2012
Converting hot air balloon photography to monochrome strips away the expected bright colors and shifts the entire focus onto geometric form, fabric texture, and directional light. When these two balloons crossed paths under filtered clouds, I knew a clean black-and-white conversion would bring out the subtle drama in the sky.
The composition pairs two ascending balloons framed closely together against textured, overcast clouds in the sky. Rich tonal gradients highlight the vertical ribs and block patterns on each envelope, while deep shadows define the baskets and burner assemblies below. The high-contrast black-and-white treatment delivers a clean, moody aesthetic tailored for desktop screens.
