Mahogany Bay Fish Eye 12-1-2017
Captured several years ago during a stop in Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Honduras, this shot frames the lush, winding coastline from an elevated vantage point off the water. Swapping out a standard focal length for an 8mm fisheye lens made it possible to pull in the entire sweep of the bay at once. The ultra-wide field of view bends the horizon slightly, capturing everything from the distant green hills and quiet dock areas to a rusted shipwreck sitting just off the shoreline.
Bright, direct daylight illuminates the scene, bringing out vivid shades of turquoise and deep blue throughout the water. The fisheye glass naturally draws the eye across the curved shoreline, where thick tropical greenery meets the sea. Subtle details stand out across the frame, including small boats moored along the coast, small buildings tucked against the trees, and the light, wispy clouds scattered across a vast blue sky.
