Sunflower 9-18-2017

While walking along a local garden edge in late summer, this bright sunflower caught the afternoon light just right among the leafy backdrop. Shooting handheld with a shallow depth of field let me isolate the head cleanly while letting the surrounding garden foliage dissolve into soft, round bokeh circles behind the blossom. The angled sun brought out fine textural detail across every single yellow petal.

The composition focuses on the open yellow sunflower, framing the dense spiral pattern of developing seed florets at the core. Bright yellow petals fan out across the frame, flanked by broad green garden leaves that contrast against a gentle, dappled green background.
