Saybrook Breakwater Light 7-12-2015
Taking a boat out into Long Island Sound off the mouth of the Connecticut River offers the best view of Saybrook Breakwater Light in Old Saybrook. Approaching from the open water on a clear summer afternoon, I lined up a level telephoto shot showing the cast-iron sparkplug lighthouse perched securely on its protective stone jetty. The bright maritime sun lit up the white tower evenly.
The photograph showcases the weathered white paint and distinctive iron rust stains running down the lighthouse tower, capped by its black lantern gallery. Dark granite riprap boulders anchor the base beneath a solid pale-blue coastal sky, while calm open sea water fills the foreground.
