Roatan Shipwreck 5-28-2015
Cruising along the shoreline of Roatán, Honduras, our ship provided an unobstructed view of this massive abandoned shipwreck stranded right in the shallows. Decaying hulls resting in coastal waters always tell a compelling maritime story, and watching it from the open deck gave me the perfect elevated vantage point across the bay to line up the shot. The midday sun hung directly overhead, illuminating the textured steel plates without creating excessive shadows.
The photograph frames the corroded iron vessel tilted sideways in calm Caribbean water, backed by a lush mangrove shoreline. Rich reddish-brown rust covers the collapsing deck and hull, standing out against the calm turquoise water below and the vibrant green foliage behind it.
