Great Falls 3-4-2014
Great Falls isn’t just one massive drop; it is a complex puzzle of narrow channels and staggered ledges where the river forces its way through tight natural cutouts. I hiked in close to this narrower chute in late winter to capture how the bedrock compresses and accelerates the flow before spreading out into the gorge below.
A smooth exposure softens the powerful funnel of rushing water as it curves around jagged stone ledges and plunges downward. Lingering winter icicles cling beneath the shaded rock corners on the left, contrasting against warm golden-brown sandstone textures and the distant brick powerhouse up on the embankment.
