Christmas Cactus 7-2-2014
Caring for a Christmas cactus indoors brings an unexpected burst of color when the plant decides to bloom outside its traditional winter window. Positioning my macro lens directly underneath the trailing green succulent stems allowed me to frame the delicate magenta blossoms opening gracefully against soft, diffused window backlight.
The upward close-up composition highlights vivid fuchsia petals flaring outward around pale white stamens and delicate pollen filaments. Serrated green cactus segments frame the top and bottom corners, while the bright white backdrop provides clean, natural high-key contrast that makes the rich tropical pink flowers command full attention on your screen.
