Fresh Snow 4-9-2014
Late-season winter storms often surprise us just as early spring begins to settle into the northeast. Following a sudden heavy snowfall, I headed outside into the yard to photograph our backyard burning bush, where wet snow had settled neatly onto slender branches before starting to slowly melt and freeze in the chilly outdoor breeze.
The shot isolates a single dark woody twig crowned with a thick crest of granulated, crystalline snow. A clear sheet of melting ice encases the lower edge of the branch, catching the soft ambient daylight and creating crisp contrast against the cool blur of the snowy woodland background.
