Mine Hill Preserve 3-28-2014

Hiking out to the industrial ruins at Mine Hill Preserve in Roxbury always feels like stepping back into Connecticut history. Standing at the base of the massive nineteenth-century stone blast furnace, the scale of the dry-laid granite blocks built into the hillside is nothing short of impressive under clear spring skies.

Captured with an ultra-wide fisheye perspective, the prominent stone furnace cuts sharply against the bright blue sky with subtle sun flare breaking over the upper canopy. The rugged masonry arches draw the eye inward, framed by surrounding bare woodlands and a gravel forest floor showing early signs of seasonal thaw.
